Deconstructing the "Real man" myth.
“Be a man: a real man. One who doesn’t cry, show emotions or vulnerability. One who knows his job is to protect and support the women in his life.”
One who knows his job is to protect and support the women in his life.”
Most men, straight or gay, will have repeatedly been exposed to this type of thinking in their formative years, often leaving them bearing the weight of a set of cultural beliefs that might be affecting various areas of their life.
So many men I work with speak of their inability to share emotions with their partners, and would rather end the relationship when it doesn’t work.
Others throw themselves in their work, having learned this as a most honorable escape.
Even within the gay community, we tend to categorize each other: Who is butch, who is “fem, who is “the man in the relationship”.
As we work to connect to the most divine expression of our being, these lines get blurred, these limits begin to fall away, and we become free to express our truth, living our authentic life beyond what we learned to believe.
Join our next Energy, Sex & Money workshop on Saturday 8 September, with Godess Charmaine and I, as we aim to expose, unravel and release emotional constructs and belief systems which don’t serve us any more.
